- Description
- Helsing is a defence AI company building AI-based capabilities and enabling infrastructure that allow semi-autonomous platforms to localise, navigate, and perceive the world in real time. Engineering challenges span distributed systems (intermittent connectivity, byzantine actors), embedded computing (resource-constrained compute, reverse-engineering), robotics (control systems, tasking), networking (long-range low-bandwidth radios, cross-medium routing), deployment infrastructure (air-gapped devices, heterogeneous fleets), security (data sharing in low-trust/no-TLS networks), and machine learning (systems for model development, storage, dissemination). Day-to-day: review code contributions/proposals/RFCs from colleagues; propose and implement new features/capabilities/algorithms/infrastructure across the stack (a mix of Rust and Python, Python mainly in ML-heavy sections); mentor and support the interviewing pipeline; share technical know-how via tech talks and office hours; maintain the existing software stack (reliability, performance, reducing technical debt); develop tests and benchmarks; present work at weekly demo sessions. You should apply if you can write legible, maintainable, performant code; communicate well in English; enjoy collaborating (code review, pair programming); are comfortable working asynchronously (PRs, RFCs, email discussions); have backend development experience ideally with Rust, Java, Go, or C++; are familiar with backend interface tools (REST, GraphQL, gRPC/Protocol Buffers, Arrow); and feel ethical considerations are an inherent part of engineering. Nice to have: Rust and Python specifically; container-based/cloud-native architectures (Docker, Azure, AWS); metrics tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK); SQL and streaming databases; routing protocols (IGP, BGP); cryptographic protocols (Signal, WireGuard); hardware interfaces (Arduino); robotics; production ML systems. Offer: focus on outcomes not time-tracking; competitive compensation and VSOP options; relocation support; social and education allowances; hands-on onboarding program ("Infraduction").
