Description
We are looking for Linux Engineers to join the team that maintains the critical infrastructure underlying the rest of Jane Street's technology. Our group includes hard-working Systems Engineers, Administrators and Programmers, tasked with maintaining and improving the platform that powers Jane Street's production trading systems. Key Responsibilities: - Debugging kernel performance - Developing management tools - Resolving production issues in real time - Deployment automation and scalable configuration management - Obsessive monitoring and observability Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience - Experience managing/troubleshooting Linux systems - Exposure to Linux environments through software development, IT operations, or similar field - Interested in systems programming and administration - Willing to learn OCaml (no prior experience required) - Able to analyze and deconstruct technical problems - Knowledge of operating system fundamentals, especially Linux - Confident with Unix command line and basic shell scripting - Basic understanding of network protocols - Comfortable with fundamental programming concepts Plus Skills: - Practical experience with modern Linux systems and systems programming (C, sockets, virtual memory, process life cycle) - Intermediate/advanced knowledge of troubleshooting tools (gdb, perf, DTrace, eBPF, SystemTap) - Knowledge of modern computer architecture techniques (PCIe, NVMe, NUMA) - Strong programmer in any language - Fluent in English
